Postdoctoral Program

Postdoctoral scientists are supported by individual postdoctoral fellowships, a faculty mentor's research grant or a departmental training grant.

The Department of Microbiology & Immunology offers postdoctoral fellows many opportunities to enhance their training beyond their experience in the mentor's laboratory. They have the opportunity to participate in any of the graduate courses offered by the basic science departments and are routinely invited to speak in all of our seminar programs. Our program offers a superb biomedical research environment, which also attracts M.D.s who train in basic research while maintaining a direct link to clinical medicine. Additional resources for postdoctoral fellows can be found at the Office of Postdoctoral Affairs.

Postdoctoral scientists should apply to individual faculty members of the department.

Postdoctoral applications to a faculty member should include:

  • A curriculum vitae
  • A statement of research interests
  • A letter of intent
  • Names and addresses of three referees

Postdoctoral Training and Support

Postdoctoral scientists should apply directly to individual faculty members of the department.

Postdoctoral applications to a faculty member should include:

Postdoctoral Housing

Postdoctoral scientists are eligible to apply for University housing on both the Health Sciences and Morningside campuses on a first-come, first-served basis. Bear in mind that the University reserves apartments vacated after March for students arriving the following fall. This means that postdoctoral scientists arriving between March and October should consider making alternate housing arrangements or delay their arrival if possible.

For more information, check the Housing section of the Office of Postdoctoral Affairs website.

Open Positions

The department's two positions for postdoctoral trainees funded through our Training Program are currently unavailable. However, you may still apply to individual faculty members of the department concerning a postdoctoral position.
